New Wheelchair Platforms at NWFC
You may have noticed the wheelchair platforms set up more often on strips 1-2 at the fencing club. Mikhel Hudrlik is a member of our club & a new parafencer.
A Note from Mikhel
I am always looking for open bouting partners, and anyone familiar with Epee is welcome to join me, no prior seated fencing knowledge is necessary.
Seated fencing makes for a great opportunity to practice handwork & preparation skills, and is a lot of fun too!
The rules of seated fencing are very similar to standing epee, with only a couple key differences:
- Valid target area is only waist & above
- Instead of footwork, you lean back & forth with your torso
- Your ‘back leg’ equivalent is your non-fencing arm, which can be stabilized by holding the wheelchair’s back wheel
- Only one buttcheek can leave the seat of the wheelchair at a time (i.e. no jumping out of the chair for that extra inch of reach)
If you see me on the floor, don’t be afraid to stop by and say hi! I’m quite friendly and will be holding up a sign that says “Epee Bouting” on it when I’m actively looking for a new partner during open bouting hours.
Thank you!
Mikhel Hudrlik
