College Fencers from the Northwest Fencing Family go off to accomplish amazing things. See more here about where some of our athletes have gone to a university or college to fence.

Congratulations to Bob Marx and Colleen Olney

Congratulations to Bob Marx and Colleen Olney, our 2021 USA Fencing Hall of Fame inductees! They will be honored during a ceremony in Minneapolis at the 2022 Summer Nationals. If you are going to the 2022 National Championships & July Challenge, it’s time to start planning! This year it is special because Bob Marx and his mother, the late Colleen Onley, one of NWFC’s founders, will be honored in the 2021 Hall of Fame for USA Fencing.

What gear you should buy and when

What gear you should buy and when

When you start fencing you will be able to use NWFC gear. As you progress through the classes you will be required to have your own equipment, starting with a mask and glove. NWFC does not provide gear for competitions, so you will need to purchase all of your own gear before starting to compete.

Team Building Events

Team Building Events

Team Building Events at NWFC are a unique and memorable experience. Appropriate for guests of all ages, our coaches will lead warm-up games and fencing fun.

The Armory

The Armory

The armory is located past the lobby and the kitchen on the left. It is open at all times to all members for the purpose of working on/repairing their weapons and equipment. Students are welcome to use the armory but it needs to remain clean. If it is not clean, it is a safety hazard and will be locked. Please keep in mind that a member’s class time is not an appropriate time to fix a weapon. Please check your weapon(s) ahead of time and have them ready to go for class.

Wall of Champions

The Wall of Champions at Northwest Fencing Center is how we recognize and pay tribute to all our athletes’ accomplishments, past and present. Below you will find a running list of our fencers that have won National, Olympic, and other champion titles.

Cody Mattern inducted in US Fencing Hall of Fame

Our very own Coach Cody makes history! Cody Mattern –  A four‐time Senior National Epee Champion, Cody was an Olympian in Men’s Epee in 2004. His epee
team was the first men’s team to win a medal at a Senior World Championships (Silver, 2010). They followed that up with a historic Gold at the 2012 World Championships. He was a two‐time U20 National Champion. He now coaches at the Northwest Fencing Center.

Losing a great friend and a legend

Losing a great friend and a legend

Losing a great friend and a legend is never easy. The Northwest Fencing Center lost its founding father this week. I am sad to report that Leon Auriol passed away, but he left behind an incredible legacy for Pacific Northwest fencing.
