Dear NWFC fencers and families,

I would like to thank you all for your generous support to raise funds for fencers in East Japan.   Through the Fence for Japan event, fencing socks fundraiser, donations from the Wine Tasting and Auction, and gifts from the community, we have raised $7344.81 .   I cannot thank all of you enough. Coaches, board members, fencers, teammates, families; your support is invaluable. We could not have made this work without you.   All funds were sent to the Japan Fencing Association to help fencers and fencing clubs that suffered from the Tsunami disaster on March 11 th .

Although many people in Japan are still faced with aftermath of the earthquake and Tsunami disaster, their life is slowly recovering thanks to support from all over the world.   I have received many messages from fencers in East Japan, and I would like to forward their appreciation for your kindness. They are very touched with knowing that fencers from as far away as NWFC are working hard to support them.   All our messages have given many of the fencers who suffered from this disaster courage, power, and most importantly, hope for the future.   Financial assistance is important, but the messages of hope and support our community sent may be more valuable.

On behalf of the fencers in East Japan, I would like to express my deepest appreciation to your kind support for Japan.

Thank you very much.

Sincerely yours,

Mika Maruyama
