2010 "Fencing and Wine"
Veterans Camp
Dates:
August 22,
2010 - August 29, 2010
Objective:
This
camp's objective is to provide a
superior international fencing
environment with an emphasis on
competitive bouting (both team and
individual) and technical and
tactical skills. However, the staff
plans to be flexible to meet the
needs of each camper. There will be
both group and individual
instruction. There will be one camp
session each day. In addition, camp
will include trips to Bordeaux
tourist sites, two scheduled wine
tastings, a dinner out in the wine
country and the “Competition des
grand vins de Bordeaux” tournament
on August 29th.
Cost:
The camp
fee is $980, which includes camp,
housing, meals, afternoon-trips,
scheduled wine tastings and the
dinner in the wine country. A
nonrefundable $100 deposit is
required to register; the balance of
the camp fee is due upon arrival.
Transportation from and to the
airport of Bordeaux will be arranged
at no cost. Campers will be housed
at the Bordeaux CREPS (www.creps-aquitaine.fr).

Staff:

Jean-François Di Martino
is the
French national coach.
Jean-François won the World
Championships in 1999 and ranked
2nd in the 2000 Olympics with
the French team. Since 2000, he
has coached the Women's Epee
Junior and Senior World
Championship teams. His students
have won the World Championship
three times in 2005, 2007 and
2008 and the Junior World
Championship in 2001.

Michael
Marx
earned his Master of Arms degree
in Poland in 1992. Michael is a
five-time U.S. Olympian and the
only male fencer in the last 50
years to make the U.S. Olympic
team in two weapons: foil and
epee. He is a five-time USOC
Athlete of the Year and earned a
record eight U.S. national
championships in foil. He has
coached the 1997-2003 Cadet,
Junior and Senior World
Championship teams and has had
students on four of the previous
Olympic teams. He has been
inducted into both the USFA and
the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame.

Sebastien Dos Santos
is the current U.S. National
Coach for Men's Epee. He was a
member of the French National
Modern Pentathlon team and is a
four-time national champion and
international gold medalist.
Sebastien was the head coach for
the 2004 French Women's Modern
Pentathlon Olympic team and the
2008 Brazilian Modern Pentathlon
team.

Thomas Theuerkauff
earned his Master of Arms degree
in Germany in 1982. He is a
four-time German Champion and
winner of the Champions League
(Coupe d'Europe des Clubs) in
1989. Thomas made several
World-Cup Finals and was ranked
for over 10 years in the World
Top-Twenty. He has been coaching
at the Medoc Fencing Club in
France since 2000.

Dan
Dechaine
is coming as our personal
armorer. For those of you who
have been living in a cave for
the last 50 years, Dan is to
armory as Michael Jordan is to
basketball, and Chateau D'yquem
is to wine. Obviously Dan is not
writing this as he would have
said he is the Guinness of
armoring.
